Hat With Attached Scarf

Cast on 70 sts. Connect the round being careful not to twist.

Work in K1, P1 ribbing for 6 rounds.

Knit in st st until work measures 5.5-6.0 inches from beginning.

Decrease for top of hat as follows. When there are too few sts to easily knit in the round on a circular needle, switch your sts (evenly divided) to three dp needles... and knit onto a fourth needle:

Round 1: (K8, K2tog) around.
Round 2: K.
Round 3: (K7, K2tog) around.
Round 4: K.
Round 5: (K6, K2tog) around.
Round 6: K.
Round 7: (K5, K2tog) around.
Round 8: K.
Round 9: (K4, K2tog) around.
Round 10: (K3, K2tog) around.
Round 11: (K2, K2tog) around.
Round 12: (K1, K2tog) around.
Round 13: (K2tog) around.

Cut yarn leaving a 12" tail. Pull end through remaining sts and cinch closed.

If you prefer, you can knit another scarf attached to the opposite side of the hat.
