Child's Floppy Crochet Hat

Sue notes: I have made this pattern and it turns out much smaller than is shown in the photos. However, it can be made larger by using a larger crochet hook and/or by using thicker yarn.

Below is Sue Thompson's Version:

Materials:

• H crochet hook
• Yarn A - 3-4 oz. ww 4ply yarn in any color desired
• Yarn B - small amount ww 4 ply in contrasting color

Directions:

Rnd 1: With yarn A, Ch 3, 11 hdc in the 2nd ch from hook. sl st to join in top of first st.
Rnd 2: ch 2, *2 hdc, 2 hdc, 2 hdc, 1 hdc,* around.  Join with sl st.
Rnd 3: ch 2, 1 hdc in same sp, *1 hdc in next, 2 hdc in next, 1 hdc in next 2 sts, 2 hdc in next st,* around.  Join with sl st.
Rnd 4: ch 2, 1 hdc in same sp, *1 hdc in next 3 sts, 2 hdc in next st,* around.  Join with sl st.
Rnd 5: ch 2, 1 hdc in same sp, *1 hdc in next 4, 2 hdc in next,* around.  Join with sl st.
Rnd 6: ch 2, 1 hdc in same sp, *1 hdc in next 5, 2 hdc in next,* around.  Join with sl st.
Rnd 7: ch 2, 1 hdc in same sp, *1 hdc in next 6, 2 hdc in next,* around.  Join with sl st.
Rnd 8-16: ch 2, 1 hdc in each st.  Join with sl st.

BRIM:
Rnd 17: ch 2, 1 hdc in same sp , *1 hdc in next 2 , 2 hdc in next,* around.  Join.
Rnd 18: ch 2, 1 hdc in same sp, *1 hdc in next 4, 2 hdc in next,* around.  Join.
Rnd 19: ch 2, 1 hdc in same sp, *1 hdc in next 5, 2 hdc in next,* around.  Join.
Rnd 20: ch 2, 1 hdc in same sp, *1 hdc in next 7, 2 hdc in next,* around.  Join with sl st.  End off.

FLOWER:
With yarn B, ch 3, join with sl st to first chain to form a ring.
* ch 3, 2 triple crochet in ring, ch 3 sl st into ring (one petal made).
repeat 4-5 more times, ending with 5-6 petals.

Fold brim up, and sew flower to brim thru both thicknesses of brim & hat. Finish off.
